OUR ETHOS

14 UPGATE - A unique experience in the heart of Louth

 

Situated in the heart of the historic West Side of Louth, a Georgian Market Town, 14 Upgate opened its doors in July 2015. Seating just 12 in the small intimate dining room, the aim is to create a relaxed atmosphere where the best seasonal food and drink can be enjoyed in tasteful informality.

MICHAEL BULLAMORE

 

Michael Bullamore has a natural talent for creating intriguing food that leaves you wanting more. He regularly forages locally for nature’s hidden gems and is currently working to create a kitchen garden at the restaurant. ‘Simplicity’ is Michael’s motto. He believes the best food is made by using great ingredients and letting them speak for themselves without messing them about too much.

 

Over the years he has gained a wealth of experience working in some of the countries finest establishments. The Boars Nest in Hull is where Michael says, “he learnt how to cook properly”. He was Head chef there for 3 years and held an AA Rosette. Michael also spent time working in Whitby at Greens Restaurant.  Here he honed his skills preparing and cooking some of the country’s finest, freshest fish and seafood.

 

Most recently, Michael and his partner Gaydre ran the Queens Head Restaurant in Legbourne where they achieved a two ‘spoon and fork’ rating in the Michelin Guide and recognition in the Good Food Guide.

 

Recently, the arrival of a patter of tiny feet has meant that Michael has now teamed up with restauranteur Andrew Leonard who has been catering in Louth for over 31 years.
